Meet Hamish – expert tailor based in our No.1 High St store.

What sparked your interest in men’s tailoring?

When I was a younger man, I had an after-school job in a small town menswear store. Here I met a senior tailor who took me under his wing and taught me the beginnings of fitting and tailoring a suit. From there my passion for the process began.

How would you define your personal style?

I would say classic with a bit of a twist. I love my suits in a classic navy or a bolder Prince of Wales check, but I like to incorporate a bolder colourful check shirt accompanied with a plain tie or a more dashing print.

What are three essential items in your wardrobe?

Firstly, it would have to be a well fitted navy textured suit, keeping away from a flat navy which I feel tends to have a little bit less flare. This colour can be worn for many occasions from a day at the races to an evening dinner party. Second, would be a great fitting dress shoe. My go-to would be a classic black brogue. Lastly for me, ties. I have a bit of an obsession. I love large paisley designs like our Berkshire and Balard Paisley Ties. These can be tied back to plain and check business shirts.

Is there a current Made to Measure trend you’re loving at the moment

There seems to be a bit of a retro feel at the moment which I’m really into. What I’m seeing is fuller pleated trouser fits in a 30’s style, paired back with jackets that are still tailored but have larger width lapels. Such a great look.

Best thing about working in the world of tailoring?

For me, it’s making a client’s vision and dream a reality. When they try their suit on for the first time and exit the fitting room with a smile on their face, you can’t beat that.

And when you’re not at work, where can we find you?

I love watching horror films, so chances are I’ll be at the cinema or in front of the TV with my eldest daughter who also loves a good scare.

Meet Luan – expert tailor based in Lambton Quay – The Chambers store.

What sparked your interest in men’s tailoring?

I got into tailoring through working at Barkers, I had been in menswear for many years but never somewhere that offered alterations. Working with the tailors and learning to pin and measure gave me a whole new skill to learn within an industry I already knew well.

How would you define your personal style?

When I’m at work I’m clean cut and professional. I like to wear tailored garments but often styled in a high-low way to incorporate comfortable shoes and so as not to look too serious. Outside of work I lean more towards streetwear indulging a love for sneakers and coordinated t-shirts, possibly the odd bucket hat too.

What are three essential items in your wardrobe?

A good smart-casual white shirt which can be dressed up or down, a pair of dark jeans and an iron.

A nice textured three-piece suit that isn’t too formal. This gives you garments that you can work into different outfits, as well as having a solid formal look when needed.

What’s one of the most important things clients should consider when having a custom suit created?

There are lots of options and directions you can go in, so doing research and working out what you like and don’t like will really help. Ultimately it’s your chance to make something just the way you want it.

And when you’re not at work, where can we find you?

Outside of work I can be found on the sofa playing Xbox, on the mountain bike trails, in the garden, or in the music studio.

Meet Sam – expert tailor based in our Chop Shop Newmarket store.

What sparked your interest in men’s tailoring?

Initially it was watching Kingsman: The Secret Service. The film introduced me to the beautiful elegance of British Tailoring on Saville Row. After that, I started to appreciate all sartorial elements.

How would you define your personal style?

Classic and timeless. Paying homage to tradition.

What are three essential items in your wardrobe?

Any of my pocket squares, my handmade Fox Umbrella from the UK, and my camel overcoat.

Double-breasted suits. They’re making a comeback which in my opinion is a great thing! Very elegant and a point of difference from the classic two-piece two button suit.

What’s one of the most important things clients should consider when having a custom suit created?

Have fun with it.

And when you’re not at work, where can we find you?

Either playing pool, or parked up at Caretaker.
